JUKANYE International Festival Committee is exploring an extraordinary musical collaboration for the 2027 edition of the festival, with discussions underway to invite legendary Jamaican reggae artist Burning Spear to headline the Opening Ceremony.

Known for his powerful roots-reggae sound and music deeply connected to African identity, freedom, resistance and social consciousness, Burning Spear would bring a unique historical and cultural dimension to the JUKANYE stage.

Music That Connects Africa and the Diaspora

JUKANYE celebrates Africa’s liberation heritage not only through history and exhibitions, but also through music, culture and artistic expression.

For generations, reggae has served as a powerful musical voice for African consciousness, Pan-African solidarity, justice and freedom. Burning Spear’s work has become closely associated with these themes, making his potential appearance particularly meaningful to JUKANYE’s vision.

The proposed performance would create an opportunity to connect Tanzania’s liberation heritage with the wider African Diaspora, bringing together history, music and contemporary cultural exchange.

A Special Opening Ceremony
